The Evergreen has several amenities and appliances for which extra help might be helpful. Please find below some how-to guides and instructions to make your stay at The Evergreen as simple, easy, and enjoyable as possible.
Where should I put my shoes? We've provided an interior shoe rack for inclement weather, but feel free to also leave your shoes outside. Thanks for helping to maintain indoor the air quality inside The Evergreen!
How do I use the washer/dryer? We provide a combined washing and drying machine, meaning that you don't have to transfer your items between washer and dryer - this one machine does both!
Laminated instructions are provided in the hall closet, next to the washer/dryer, however a couple things are worth noting:
-
If you plan to both wash and dry articles, know in advance this could take as much as four hours.
-
The machine is able to wash much larger loads than it can dry. Small loads are washed and dried much more effectively.
-
If you just want to dry items, press the DRY button before you turn the cycle selection knob. This will put the machine in dry-only mode.
What's safe to put in the dishwasher? All of the serving, baking, cooking, dish and glassware is safe to go in the dishwasher except the non-stick pots/pans; please hand-wash those. Also, please make sure that anything plastic (except the cutting boards) stays on the top-shelf of the dishwasher; it gets too hot on the bottom-shelf, and the plastic items can melt.
How does the fireplace work? What is its relationship to the thermostat? Because the fireplace provides 100% of the heating for The Evergreen, by default the fireplace is controlled by the thermostat (located on the wall behind the ladder to the loft.) If you don't touch either the thermostat or the fireplace, by default the motion-sensor located above the flat-screen tv will track when the cabin is occupied and ensure that interior temperatures remain between 68F - 72F during waking hours (6am - 12am); between 12am and 6am, the thermostat regulates temperatures to be cooler - to aid both in sleeping and energy efficiency - allowing the temperature to drop as low as 60F. If at any time you want The Evergreen to be warmer or cooler, using the up and down arrows on the thermostat will modify the temperature to your specific preferences.
In order for the thermostat to control the fireplace, fireplace controls should always look like this.
However, if you want to enjoy a fire on-demand, switch the fireplace controls to look like this. This will override the thermostat until you switch the controls back to Photo 1. When you're done using the fireplace, don't forget to switch the controls back to Photo 1.
How can I access bikes? Do you have bike locks? Seabrook provides complimentary bikes for guest use; these are available under the white tent, near the Cottage Rentals office. We also have two bikes available for your use in the shed behind The Evergreen. The key to the padlock on the shed is in the kitchen drawer, closest to the front door. Helmets are available from Cottage Rentals. Bike locks are also available in the shed. The code to the one on the pink bike is 6441, and the code for the one on the green bike is 6434.
How do I get on the internet? The Evergreen provides free wireless internet. Our network is called "The Evergreen", and the password is available within the information binder in the cabin.
Is there anything special about the phone service at The Evergreen? Can I receive voice messages during my stay? How does the answering machine work? The Evergreen uses an
Ooma to provide guests with local and national calling, voicemail, caller-ID, and call-waiting. It is worth noting that when you turn on the cordless phone, you may notice several beeps before hearing a dial-tone; this is just the Ooma service connecting. Also, when placing a call, be sure to use the area code even when placing local calls; in this way, dialing from The Evergreen should be a lot like using your cell phone.
Does The Evergreen recycle? Yes! Separate containers for trash and recycling are provided under the kitchen sink. Also, a
laminated guide detailing what can and cannot be recycled is provided next to the recycling bin.
